SAF SANITATION

JOB SUMMARY:
SAF Sanitation employees are integral members of the production process at Los Gatos Tomato Products. They are responsible for ensuring the proper chemical balance, clean wastewater exiting facility, sanitization and general housekeeping duties. They perform hygienic roles around the SAF and Hycor area to ensure cleanliness standards are in place and enforced. The SAF Sanitation employee will mainly focus on water quality and water management.  They work independently near moving machinery in a safely manner in order to remove matter other than tomato from conveying equipment and screens.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

• Operates and manages chemical use in SAF
  • Contacts lead/management if out of spec
• Ensures correct flows through system
• Cleaning and sanitizing areas in wastewater area
• Visually inspects equipment for proper operation and cleanliness
• Keep screens and presses clean of tomato vines to ensure a good water flow
• Effectively keep SAF and surrounding areas audit ready at all times
• Uses shovel to pick up tomatoes and/or pumice
  • Review SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedure) to ensure accuracy.
• Ensures for a good water flow and cleanliness of hycor screens Vincent press in area
• Cleans floors using chemicals and high-pressure water throughout the area
• Performs housekeeping practices, such as picking up debris, rolling water hose after each use, placing shovels in designated places
• Operate a forklift
• Dump trash and organic waste hoppers with forklift
• Other duties as assigned
• Responsible for reporting any problems with the Food Safety Quality Management System with your direct supervisor. Authority to initiate and record Corrective Actions.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Will be trained by the company on Chemical Safety & Handling
• Must be able to perform duties on any shift
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, and stoop as needed
• Ability to walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, hear, smell, and work long hours
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
• Ability to communicate with all supervisors and peers.
• Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry detailed and written or oral instructions Ability to read, understand and follow the safety and directions for various chemicals and chemical compounds used during sanitation duties

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee frequently is required to use hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and climb or balance, uses hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials. This job also requires lifting, bending, squatting, reaching, and pulling to complete tasks throughout the shift. The employee is occasionally required to walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is regularly exposed to vibration and occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.

This position will be exposed to high varying temperatures and may include a wet and slippery environment with a loud noise.
